RDP Access Request
RDP, or Remote Desktop Protocol, is a family of technologies which allow you to interact with a machine over the network as if you were sitting in front of it. By default, the School of Engineering restricts access to these tools to prevent students from remotely interfering with their fellow students who are using the computers during their regularly scheduled class time. In order to support hybrid classes and distance learning, students who have a need can request assignment to a a lab machine.
Please follow these steps to request an RDP assignment.
To be granted access, you need to send an email as follows:
- State what software you need because it determines which lab machines you can be assigned to
- Which course(s) of yours are impacted
- If you are working in a group, what are the email addresses of your team members so they are also granted access to the computer
- Make sure the request is sent to support AND your professor of record
The above information allows us to: assign you to an appropriate computer, make sure your whole group has access and forecast the potential load this request will add to the VPN.
With most of the transition work done, these requests should be processed quickly.
